Why was the foundation established? The Bruce Children are Special Foundation was established to receive and direct donations to the needs of children served by the Children's Aid Society of the County of Bruce .
What is the mission statement? "To assist, enrich and have a positive impact on the lives' of children residing in Bruce County with special attention paid to those served by The Children's Aid Society of the County of Bruce ." What is the mandate: "To receive and maintain a fund or funds and to apply from time to time all or part thereof and the income there from for charitable or educational purposes related to the benefit and protection of children.For the exclusive benefit of the programs and facilities of The Children's Aid Society of the County of Bruce ."
What is the slogan: "Give a child a hand up." Who founded it? The Children's Aid Society of the County of Bruce
Under what circumstances/why was it started? It was established after a capital building campaign which helped raise funds for an addition to the main office building in Walkerton. Upon the completion of that campaign which provided board awareness throughout the county regarding what CAS did, the foundation was started to help offset costs of children/family programs which are not funded by the government. Where is the BCAS foundation housed? It is located at The Children's Aid Society of the County of Bruce at 5 McGivern St , Walkerton , ON. What is the phone number? (519) 881-3052 or toll free 888-807-7773.
Who oversees the foundation? There are seven Board of Directors, one of which is the Executive Director of the Children's Aid Society and a part-time Administrator.
Does the foundation have By-Laws? Yes. They were developed for the conduct of the affairs of the Bruce Children are Special Foundation and accepted April 2, 2001.
What programs do you run?
Explain how the membership works . According to By-Law 7.01 "membership is the Corporation shall consists of such persons as are admitted as Members by the Board upon payment of such fee or annual fee as may be determined by the Board from time to time. The fee, until changed, shall be set at $3 per annual membership. Membership must be purchased 30 days before the annual or any special meeting. What does the membership fee include? Members have the right to nominate and elect Board of Directors, appointing the auditor. They can attend the annual general meeting and will see all necessary books and records of the Corporation required by the by-law. They will receive annual reports and invitation to all special events (for example recognition and fundraising events). What are the qualifications of a director? As per By-Law 4.03 they must be a member of the Corporation; be at least 18 years of age and not be an undischarged bankrupt. How does the community respond to the organization? Very positively.
Who does the foundation help most? Children ages 0 - 18 years of age.
Do we intent to expand? Always, as service demands increase in our area.
Do we have major sponsors? Yes, Bruce Power for one. What kind of fundraisers do we have? Easter Ham Drives, Antique Treasures and Appraisals, raffles, silent auctions and yard sales are a few examples.
What percentage of money raised actually goes to services? 86%
How much money is spent on the running of the charity? 14% Do we receive any government funding? No, not for programs sponsored by the BCAS.
What kind of donations are you looking for? Can you donate gently used items? The Bruce Children are Special Foundation appreciates any donation that it is given from $1 to $1,000 +. People can also donate items such as car seats, toys, cribs, etc. Most gently used items are also accepted however, speak to the Administrator before making the donation.
Are there any donations that cannot be accepted? Yes. Any books, DVDS or games with violence or sexual content cannot be accepted. We are also unable to accept used stuffed animals or car seats. Any items that have been damaged or missing pieces will not be accepted What kind of special items are in need? Cribs and car seats are special items that are a need for people in our community.
Can you give out taxable receipts? Yes.
Do we use volunteers? Yes, both the CAS volunteers and foundation members. What are our short-term goals? To be able to sustain funding for identified programs and increase project funds for bursaries and as the service demands increase.
What bursary funds are established?
How often are bursaries awarded? Each year bursary information is made available to staff and school boards for potential candidates. All nominees must be or have received service by the Children's Aid Society of the County of Bruce and attend the Bluewater District School Board or the Bruce Trey Catholic District School Board.
Does the Bruce Children are Special Foundation work with any other non profit agencies? Yes. The Bruce Children are Special Foundation works with the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program, as well as the United Way of Grey Bruce. This allows us to provide more services to our clients.
